Here at Koomohost, we implement what we believe to be the best of the best in web hosting technology. But also, it is also ingrained in our business philosophy to implement best practices, when we are able.
Most website owners who are a small business owner, do not realize, what they are paying for when they obtain basic web hosting services.
Lets start with the Email that is sent out FROM your website. A basic and typical web host will install a software (e.g. Postfix) on the server where your website is stored.
Now keep in mind, a standard web host is putting customers on a shared server, so all the websites are accessing the same Email software to send out emails or messages (e.g. Contact Form) originating from the website.
What can happen is customers on that server are getting a lot of visitor traffic, email messages and/or notifications on their website. It will impact the Email delivery. The email will get backed up in the queue. You will either get a delayed message, or it is lost due to a restart of the Email software.
Now another thing that can prevent delivery of the Email is blocked by email service providers like Gmail. If your site is not associated with a reputable or identifiable IP address and domain name, most email providers will mark it SPAM or not accept delivery.
In the past year, Google and Microsoft has stepped up their security due to millions of SPAM, malware and criminal intent email. To keep it plain and simple, they want to make sure the email messages originating from a website has identified itself and is reputable. Before it was a matter of not being listed on SPAM lists but now, if you don’t have the proper identification for your domain set up, the Email Delivery may not occur.
Most shared Web hosting companies put you on a shared server with a shared IP address. Well, if any of the customers on that IP Address are marked as a SPAMMER, or get blocked, it can seriously affect your email delivery too. Your domain is deemed guilty by association.

So what do you do? The web is getting more simple on the front end yet on the back end, more sophisticated. Rather than use a local Email software, it is better to use an Email Service Provider like Mandrill, SendGrid, MailJet or here at Koomohost, we use Amazon Simple Email Service (SES).
