Starting a new business is a daunting task. We won’t go into the risk, hopes, dreams and expectations involved, but lets take a look at the bare minimum you need in the Internet era to get started.
Back in the day, when I first started my business, I had leased an office, furniture, paid a huge sum to Credit Card services and I will never forget the very expensive advertising dollars to Yellow Pages. I’m so happy that in these times, you can start lean and be very effective.
Leveraging technology can do that for you, right?
Based on what I have learned over almost 2 decades of running and shutting down several micro business companies, you don’t need much more than this:
1) A website – search engine optimized, good content, easy to update and a professional look.
2) Custom Domain Email – email has become a top communications tool. Using your domain in your email address, is easy marketing.
3) Smartphone – A total must for today’s entrepreneur. Email, texting, Calendar – all in one device.
I think those are the esssentials to a lean start up. Of course, you can add on a Facebook page, LinkedIn, etc… but that would depend on your bandwidth. It’s better to be focused and keep your tasks tight.
