When you begin to build your online presence, it is important to understand your website the center or the hub. Why? You control, own and manage your website, all other places like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and others, is not under your control. Remember the changes to MySpace? What about Posterous (Sold to Twitter and shut down) and Microsoft’s Office live or the Live.com platform?
All gone.
Most of your resources should be targeteted towards building a website, resulting in a strong foundation for your online presence. Your other platforms (social media) should all be redirecting traffic to your website. Why?
Once the traffic lands on your site, you can connect to them by getting them as subscribers, readers, social media shares and better a new customer. If your online marketing is flowing to your site, then they (site visitors) will know to go directly to your site versus any other place.
If those other social media places ever change, shut down or alter the service somehow, you also own the traffic.
Keep that in mind. Any so called Internet Expert understands that a website is the best place, your center hub. You own your site, content and how it engages, as well as the traffic.
